Who We Are

We are parents who wanted our kids to have a home for sports—so we built one.

As parents raising families in the Flour Bluff and Padre Island community of South Texas, we saw firsthand how sports bring kids together, create friendships, and strengthen community bonds. But we also noticed that many families were spending countless hours driving across Corpus Christi just so their kids could practice, compete, and feel connected. That’s when we asked a simple question: Why not build something here—something for our own neighborhood?

From that question, Hornet Youth Sports League (HYSL) was born.

We started with a small group of friends and a big vision: to create a safe, local, and welcoming space where our youth could grow through sports. What began as a neighborhood effort to host soccer games has evolved into a fast-growing, multi-sport program where kids from all over the Bluff can play, learn, and belong.

As a nonprofit organization, our mission extends far beyond the field. We believe sports are a powerful tool for teaching lifelong skills—confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership, respect, and dedication. These qualities build strong athletes, yes—but more importantly, they build strong kids. Kids who will someday be the leaders, innovators, and changemakers of our community.

Through HYSL, we’re not just coaching players; we’re building character, fostering belonging, and helping families grow closer—not just to the game, but to one another.

Because community isn’t just where you live. It’s where you show up, play hard, and belong.

Our Mission

The mission of the Hornets Youth Sports League is to provide a safe, fun, and competitive environment where young athletes can develop their skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and character through participation in organized sports programs. We strive to create a positive and inclusive culture that promotes physical activity, healthy habits, and lifelong learning, while fostering a sense of community and civic responsibility. Our goal is to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders and champions, both on and off the field, by instilling core values such as respect, integrity, perseverance, and excellence.
